Sleep in style: 7 top picks for a dreamy principal bedroom
I love imagining how a family uses their space. How organized is the kitchen? How comfy is the family room? And how peaceful is the bedroom? I always wonder what each home’s inner-world and design is like.
MKI’s Bedroom Redesign
Let’s sneak a peek inside an exciting primary bedroom design project I’m working on in Toronto, Ontario. My clients were looking for a quiet place to unwind after non-stop days with their kids (think crazy schedules, messy meals and a few tantrums here and there).
Our plan is to create a third-floor bedroom retreat featuring natural light from their floor to ceiling windows, crisp white walls and wide plank oak floors. This bedroom redo is all about recharging and relaxing.
Bed and bedside table
First up, the bed. We were inspired to create a serine look to honour the wall-to-wall windows. The Parcel Bed by Gus* Modern in Stockholm Celeste fabric is a soft, airy, modern platform bed. The squared-off headboard is gentle and inviting, and the French seams are the perfect classic detail to elevate this contemporary look.
Then we added a little something with a big impact. I love this Li’l Something Side Table from Blu Dot. The dark olive steel bedside table with oak tops is the best place to store a good read or display a family photo collage. The look is clean, the tone is natural, and the function can’t be beat.
I am completely obsessed with the JWDA Lamp from Style Garage. The smooth, rounded glass with a sturdy base in light grey concrete is a great addition to the room.
Bedding and area rug
If you’re looking for an excellent duvet cover, I have just the pick for you. It covers all the bases: easy to care for, soft and breathable, and a fresh and modern look. My client fell in love with the Easy Living Washed 100% Linen White from Au Lit Fine Linens and I think you will too. The stone-washed linen set presents as well-loved and happily lived-in. No ironing necessary.
I matched the simplicity of the duvet with the delicate patterns of the Kahlo Sari Grey/Multi area rug from Mkt’s modern collection. This rug is made of vintage silk saris and no two are the same. I could get lost staring at this rug all day…
Seating and side table
And for the final touches in this calming bedroom retreat I chose a truly dynamic duo: the curvy HAVANA chair from Softline Furniture and the West Coast Stool in white ash from Sundays. I really like this modern take on the classic armchair. The rounded design is reliably comfortable and relaxing, and it has an amazing head rest.
I love the design of this solid wood stool. The soft lines and strength of this table echo the features of the bedside lamp. With the HAVANA chair and West Coast Stool, you’ve got style and function covered.
Now you’re all set to sleep, relax and rejuvenate in total bedtime bliss. Do you need help redesigning your bedroom? Reach out to MKI. Then be sure to straighten those bed sheets – your guests are definitely going to want a tour.
